Known for their large stature and thick fur coat, the Maine Coon is a cat that's hard to ignore. Belonging to the state of Maine and the official state cat, the Maine Coon is a gentle giant. They are very good hunters and became popular in the late 1970s when the CFA recognized them as a purebred. They are one of the most famous breeds of cats. Many grandchildren have polydactylism, or extra toes, which make their already large feet seem even larger.
